Building Valued Partnerships

Our Global Procurement Strategy aims to re-engineer and streamline our procurement processes, as we grow our global supplier relationships into long-term sustainable partnerships.

Our Procurement Strategy considers people and processes as well as technology and systems and is linked to our overall business strategy. Our desire is simple yet important: It’s to become the preferred supplier to our customers and a preferred customer to our suppliers.

To achieve our goals, we’ll help manage supplier performance, leverage global scale and knowledge, speed supplier diversity and innovation and strengthen supplier relationships. We’ll also focus on these areas: collaborating with suppliers to reduce costs, improving productivity while implementing automated standard metrics, standardizing product specs, implementing a program to diversify our supplier base around the world, reducing complexity and waste and instituting a long-term procurement strategy.

Like most global companies, we focus on standardizing business processes to achieve economies of scale and leverage resource utilization. At CHEP, we aim to go above and beyond. We want to establish stronger and more-enduring relationships with our supplier community. Doing so helps all of us.

“Not long ago, we laid out the strategic pillars that make up our global procurement strategy. All of them, of course, involve our suppliers. We have made great strides in strengthening our global supplier partnerships, leveraging international market conditions and cultivating regional and local supplier relationships. This commitment aligns with our vision and mission to support the communities where we work as well as supplier diversity opportunities.

A commitment to quality

A job worth doing is worth doing well. At CHEP, we are committed to providing quality material handling equipment and supply chain solutions, along with responsive service, which is designed to meet and exceed the needs of our customers, everyday.

We believe that customer satisfaction and loyalty are primary to everything we do. Our business practices and quality systems revolve around the premise that the Voice of our Customer drives our improvements.

Our suppliers and 3rd party partners are subject to the same CHEP quality standards and are effectively managed and monitored to ensure compliance to our quality requirements.

Supplier Diversity

“CHEP has consistently demonstrated a strong focus on this important business strategy.” — Procter & Gamble

One of the most important things we can do as a company is to engage, embrace and advance in deep and meaningful supplier diversity activities and initiatives.

We are deeply committed to providing equal procurement opportunities to all suppliers and promoting supplier diversity throughout the CHEP North America supply chain. We actively seek to bring diverse suppliers on-board to ensure an effective and cost efficient supply chain now and in the future, across our supplier network in support of our supplier diversity vision.

Working together with these suppliers will help us to deliver affordable products and services as we support our customer base and the communities we touch. Our program drives mutually beneficial relationships with a broad and diverse supplier base, ensuing the best service, quality and technology for our organization and our customers.

SUPPLIER QUALIFICATION

At CHEP, we continuously strive to provide our customers with the best products and services. We can achieve this by partnering with strategic suppliers that can deliver the best overall value to our business. With that in mind we have developed comprehensive guidelines for qualifying suppliers. Once these guidelines are met, a potential supplier can be classified as a preferred partner for CHEP.

Some important components of our supplier qualification, such as Lumber Suppliers, focuses on the lumber we use to build and repair our pallets. Warranting specific mention in relation to lumber supplier qualification, CHEP will not seek to source forest products from:

  • Forests or forest product suppliers where CHEP is not confident that the supplier is complying with all relevant national legislation relating to the trade in forest products.
  • High-conservation-value forests where these are recognized nationally or regionally, unless these forests are progressing towards credible forest certification in a transparent and timely manner.
  • Protected areas, parks or similar areas where harvesting operations are not complementary to responsible forest management.
  • Forests, which are in areas of, armed conflict or civil unrest where there is a direct relationship between the forest products trade and the funding of such conflicts.

To ensure these goals are achieved CHEP will:

  • Qualify and monitor suppliers of lumber.
  • Work to improve the level of compliance against this policy.

Another critical component of our strategy is the capital equipment used at CHEP plants for the repair and manufacturing of CHEP pallets as well as the services we use to service and manage them. Before any pooling equipment is sent to our customers we make sure it meets or exceeds quality standards; this requires high quality equipment and expert services from our supplier base.

Our supplier qualification process utilizes industry best practices as well as internally developed tools with the purpose of not only identifying potential suppliers but also certifying that they meet our very strict guidelines.

At CHEP we believe that only through strong partnerships, built on trust, integrity and mutual respect, can we mutually succeed.
